Research File System
University provided file storage system for research data
In 2023 the University launched a new service for storing in-progress research data. This product is called Research File System (RFS) and provides access to a storage location from any University network location. Currently, the facility is not be approved for confidential data, so should not be used by OxCIN researchers to store personal information (e.g. human MRIs). As and when this approval changes it may become an option for your project's data storage.

It is possible to access an RFS share from OxCIN's OOD Remote Desktop system using the built-in 'Caja' file manager app using the following settings:
- type: Windows Share
- server: connect.ox.ac.uk
- user name: sso
- domain name: ad.oak.ox.ac.uk
- password: your ssd account password
- suggested bookmark name: rfs-smb
It may also be possible to access RFS from the command line using the rclone tool on clint.fmrib.ox.ac.uk and OOD Remote Desktops. rclone is already installed. Configure rclone using these settings as described in https://rclone.org/smb/
- type: smb
- host: connect.ox.ac.uk
- user: sso
- domain: ad.oak.ox.ac.uk
- pass: sso password
It is also possible to access RFS shares from a web browser on OOD using the RFS File Management portal. Consult your RFS Welcome pack for further details
