26th Feb - Writing for Purpose - Workshop

Communication is an essential part of any scientific career. If you haven't told anyone what you did, and what you found, have you truly done the science? It is tempting to think we only have to dryly communicate exact technical details to other scientists. In reality we regularly have to communicate our ideas packaged for a wide range of people, experience, and purposes. In this short workshop we will look at how you can tailor and refine your writing for frequently encountered purposes: papers, grants, ethics, participant information, and public engagement.

In this interactive session, we will see real examples of writing for different purposes, find out how editing can help you get there iteratively, and finally try it out live with other participants.

In this session for the OxCIN, participants learned what coaching is and got a taster of being a coach or coachee.

Social media platforms are increasingly intertwined with work. Many researchers successfully enhance their career prospects by building strong social media profiles, whether to boost their options for continuing in academia, or to explore pathways beyond.
